14-year-old Malaysian qualifies for classical music competition final in Slovakia

KUALA LUMPUR: A 14-year-old Malaysian violinist has secured a place in the final performance of the 23rd International Competition of Bohdan Warchal in Slovakia.

Sufiya Taufik, who is based in Copenhagen in Denmark, will be competing against 11 other violinists in the violin category on May 1 at 8.30pm (Slovakia time).

She performed in the first round of the solo violin category on April 30 and competed against 25 other participants across the globe.

The winner of the competition last year was Bartosz Skibiński from Poland.

The competition, which is under the Talents for Europe, began on April 27 and ends on Wednesday (May 1).

The winner of the solo category will get to perform at the International music festival, Kubínska hudobná jeseň in 2020.
