Teen killed in crash while on way to feed stray felines; story goes viral

KOTA BARU: Every day, since he was a little boy, Ahmad Razin Sapri would accompany his father on his rounds feeding stray cats in their village and other areas in Bachok, here.

His love of cats continued well into his teenage years – and the Form Five student of Maahad Yaakubiah Nipah made it a routine of feeding stray felines after returning from school and during weekends.

But while on his way to feed stray cats at Bachok’s Irama Beach on Wednesday, the 17-year-old met with an accident.

According to his uncle, Nasrul Mohamed, Razin was riding his motorcycle from his home in Kampung Nakhoda Saamah to the beach at 7.30am when he lost control of his vehicle and rammed into a fence.

Badly injured in the crash, Razin was found by other motorists with cat food strewn near his body. He was rushed to hospital by members of the public.

Razin, who had slipped into a coma, died at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian at about 2.45am the following day (May 9).

“Razin had asked his father’s permission to go to the beach that morning. He had just bought cat food from a nearby sundry shop when the incident occurred,” said the 43-year-old lawyer when contacted today.

Razin was laid to rest at the Kampung Nakhoda Saamah cemetery, where more than 50 family members, relatives, friends and classmates had gathered to pay their last respects.

News of the young man’s death went viral on social media after Nasrul uploaded it to his Facebook page recently.
