Cat on a hot tin roof, 'abang bomba' to the rescue

JERANTUT: Whether you have four legs or two, being stuck on the roof for two days is no one's idea of fun.

Possibly in his enthusiasm to catch a rat, "Tompok" ended up on the roof of his home in Kampung Som, near here, and could not find his way down.

Enter the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) who took no more than 15 minutes to rescue the poor feline.

The operation was led by Jerantut firefighter Mohamad Zulkifli Mohamad Zainal said they received a distress call at about 8.30am today and arrived some 30 minutes later.

"We were told the cat had been on the roof for the past two days...we had no trouble bringing the cat down and the rescue operation was completed in less than 15 minutes," he said when contacted.

He informed that six officers were involved in the operation.

Meanwhile, Tompok's owner Norhayati Ahmad, 60, said she believed her cat was chasing a rat before getting trapped on the roof of her two-storey house.

"We heard Tompok meowing from the roof but did not know how to bring him down," she said.

"Which is why we made the decision to call JBPM to help rescue our cat," she added, expressing her gratitude to the firefighters who came to Tompok's rescue.
