Former Pahang Sultan's remains now at Istana Abu Bakar

PEKAN: The remains of former Sultan of Pahang, Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah ibni Al Marhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mu'adzam Shah arrived at Istana Abu Bakar here about 8.45pm.

Sultanah Kalsom (the consort of Sultan Ahmad Shah), Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah were among those who accompanied the remains.

The Tengku Muda of Pahang, Tengku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ahmad Shah and Tengku Arif Temenggong Pahang, Tengku Fahd Mu'adzam Shah Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah, were among those who received the remains at the palace tonight.

Earlier the 'kafan' ceremony of Sultan Ahmad Shah’s remains was held at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur before being flown to Kuantan Air Base here later today.

The aircraft landed at the RMAF base in Kuantan about 7.20pm.

The public can pay their final respects to the former Pahang ruler at the Balairung Seri of Istana Abu Bakar in Pekan from tonight until 9am tomorrow (May 23).

Members of royal families, ministers and dignitaries will be allowed to pay their last respects beginning 11am tomorrow.

The former ruler will be buried at the Royal Mausoleum, next to the Sultan Ahmad Shah Mosque in Pekan after Zohor prayers tomorrow.

Sultan Ahmad Shah breathed his last at 8.50am today at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur. He was 88.

News of his passing was announced by Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
