Festive shopping at the longest bazaar in Malaysia

MELAKA: Spanning about two kilometres, Bazar Mega Klebang here is probably the longest bazaar in Malaysia, and has been drawing crowds preparing for Aidilfitri.

With 260 stalls and 400 traders, the bazaar serves as a one-stop centre for everything one would need for Raya preparations, including baju melayu and baju kurung, children clothes and equipment such as biscuits containers and dishes.

Organiser Mohd Nasir Mamat said with its strategic position and facilities, the Mega Klebang Bazaar has managed to attract a diverse crowd of all races.

He said some one million visitors were expected to visit the bazaar until the day before Aidilfitri.

“We are in the process of including it in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the longest bazaar in Malaysia.

"To make it easier for visitors, there are 1,200 parking lots available," he added.

According to him, a total of RM70, 000 has been allocated for lucky draw prizes, which include a Perodua Axia, Modenas Kriss motorcycle, bicycles and electrical goods.

Visitor Rohaida Mohd Salehan, 48, said she and her family took two hours to travel from Shah Alam to get the taste of shopping at the Mega Klebang Bazaar.

The teacher said she was wanted to feel the excitement of shopping at the bazaar, which had gone viral on Facebook, with positive and encouraging comments from netizens.

"There are plenty of things to buy here, and I am spoilt for choice. This is my first experience shopping in a big bazaar atmosphere.

"Besides having a lot of choice, the price is also affordable," she added.

Another visitor, Abd Hafiz Sulaiman, 21, said he was surprised to see many stalls and festive items when he arrived here.

"I have gone to bazaars in Johor and Kuala Lumpur, but this one is simply amazing.

"It’s a long walk. There are plenty of booths, and the friendly traders make you feel at home," he added.
