Two killed, one severely injured in 4WD-car collision

TUARAN: Two people were killed and one was severely injured when their car collided with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) along Jalan Tamparuli-Ranau at Kampung Tomis Jaya, Tamparuli near here.

In the 10.30am incident, 42-year-old Julia Panikir, who was sitting in the passenger seat, succumbed to head and body injuries.

Her daughter Litalana Erna Stomon, 17, died while receiving treatment at Ranau district hospital while her son Nicholes Saputra, 11, suffered serious head injuries.

Kota Belud district police chief Superintendan Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the driver Stomon Nasir, 46, from Kampung Kiau Bersatu only suffered mild injuries.

He said initial investigation showed that the other vehicle driven by a 36-year-old man with five other passengers aged between eight and 59 was heading to Ranau from Kota Kinabalu.

“However, the 4WD collided with the other car that came from the opposite direction,” he said in a statement, adding that police are still investigating the case under Section 41(1) Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, district Fire and Rescue department chief Abdul Qawie Abdul Gapar said they received the call at 10.41am.

“When we arrived, the four victims had been rescued by the public and they were sent to hospital by ambulance,” he said, adding that the operation ended at 11.40am.
