Almost 100 evacuated in Membakut floods

BEAUFORT: Flooding in Membakut here has forced the evacuation of 94 people to temporary shelters, as of 8am today.

The evacuees are residents of 11 villages which were inundated by flood waters last night.

"All the victims were moved to the Membakut multi-purpose hall after their homes were flooded.

"The affected villages include Kampung Lumantak, Kampung Baitam, Kampung Sinoko, Kampung Bambangan, Kampung Baru, Kampung Kayai, Kampung Lampijas, Kampung Jambatan Baru, Kampung Baitam Laut, Kampung Baitam Baru and Kampung Papas," Beaufort district officer Jupry Etok said when contacted.

He added that five main roads in the area are inundated, but still accessible to vehicles.

The Civil Defence Department, Fire and Rescue Department and other agencies are monitoring the situation.
