'Azmin must resign if evidence against him is overwhelming'

KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali must resign if the evidence against him is overwhelming, a PKR leader said.

Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said stepping down was the “honourable thing” for Azmin to do, after his alleged involvement in viral sex videos involving two men recently.

“Let the authorities complete their investigation. If the evidence is overwhelmingly against him, then he must resign.

“Anyone in the party would share the (same) opinion. It is the honourable thing to do,” he told the New Straits Times yesterday.

The political secretary to PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also rejected Azmin’s claims that the videos were an inside job, adding that everyone in the party was “equally shocked”.

“Everyone must be accountable for their own actions, whether good or bad. There is no conspiracy here.”

Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, had vehemently denied the accusation, describing it as a nefarious plot to destroy his reputation and political career.

Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, a senior private secretary to the Deputy Primary Industries and Commodities Minister, has confessed to being the other man in the sex videos.

He also claimed that the man with him in the video was Azmin.

It was reported that Azmin has given his statement to the police on this matter on Monday.
