Firemen rush to Beluran home, rescue girl from centipede

BELURAN: A team of eight firemen rushed to a house here this morning to help a woman get rid of a centipede that had entered home.

The 20-year-old woman, who panicked when she saw the arthropod, had called the department at 2.22pm for help.

“When the team arrived, the centipede was already dead because the woman had thrown a box at it.

“However, the complainant was still scared and just sat at the counter... and we had to calm her," a spokesperson said.

When the incident was shared on the Beluran Fire and Rescue Department's Facebook page, the post received mixed reactions from internet users.

One of them was the girl's sister who explained that the victim has scolopendrphobia or the fear of centipedes.

“On behalf of the caller, I would like to apologise to admin... I am her sister... She was alone that time... Whenever she sees a centipede, she will think it is a monster, " the woman said.
