Sultan Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri take part in tree-planting programme

CYBERJAYA: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin attended a Plant A Tree in the City 2019 programme here today.

Also present at the event was Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris.

At the ceremony, Sultan Sharafuddin planted the 'Swietenia Macrophylla' tree, also called Sky Show, while Tengku Permaisuri Selangor planted the 'Delonix Regia' tree, or commonly known as semarak api.

The Raja Muda Selangor meanwhile planted the 'Caesalpinia Sappan' tree, or the Sepang tree.

In his speech, Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said 1,500 shaded trees and 3,000 shrubs would be planted by 2,000 participants, comprising public servants, students of public and private institutions of higher learning, schoolchildren and non-governmental organisations.

The planting area is 58,669 square meters (14 acres) big and divided into two plots.

Plot A (vvip plot), with a total area of 31,523 square meters, is planted with 500 shaded trees, while Plot B (participants plot) with a total area of over 27,146 square meters, is planted with 1,000 shaded trees, he said.

"In line with the concept of urban garden beautification, we have proposed that the planting area be named Cyberjaya Central Park. It will be a green area and adopt the park-in-the-city concept that can be a public attraction and focus point in the development of Cyberjaya, in particular,” added Amirudin. –BERNAMA
