GEORGE TOWN: Transport Minister Anthony Loke has assured that Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is working around the clock to solve the systems glitch at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2.
Loke, who was in KLIA earlier today to board a flight to Penang, said MAHB has to give the detailed report on the glitch.
“I don't have the details right now because they (MAHB) are ironing them out ... it is all technical issues.
“They (MAHB) are working to resolve the problem,” he said after the launch of the unlimited travel Mutiara pass for Rapid Penang and Rapid Ferry.
The disruption at KLIA and klia2 resulted in almost two dozen flights being delayed and long passenger queue.
The glitch affected several airport systems, including the Flight Information Display System (FIDS), check-in-counters, the Baggage Handling Systems (BHS), and WiFi availability.
Earlier, Loke took to his Facebook page, saying he had viewed the situation at the airport together with the ministry's chief secretary Datuk Mohd Khairul Adib Abd Rahman.
He said he was briefed by MAHB officers on the latest development.
“I was told MAHB has taken numerous initiatives to solve the system glitch, including replacing the faulty equipment. MAHB has also extended its operation hours to solve the problem.
“We hope the situation can be resolved soon. We also thank employees at KLIA and klia2 who had worked overtime to rectify the glitch,” he added.
It was reported that almost two dozen flights were delayed yesterday as both international terminals grappled with a systems disruption.
Up to 20 flights on airlines bound for Narita (Japan); Perth, Sydney and Melbourne (Australia); Jakarta (Indonesia); London (United Kingdom); and Hong Kong were affected.
Airport operator, Malaysia Airports, said the disruption began on Wednesday night.
