18 Merdeka babies born at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital in Seremban

SEREMBAN: Eighteen babies were born at Tuanku Jaafar Hospital, Seremban (HTJS) here today, coincided with the country’s 62nd Merdeka Day.

As of noon, a total of nine boys and nine girls were born, with the first Merdeka baby delivered at 12.40am.

Housewife Hasrafidah Ismail, 37, from Senawang, said she gave birth to her second child, a baby girl weighing 2.6kg at 1.40am today.

She said although the doctors had previously informed her that her due date would fall on Aug 31, she, however, did not put too much hope as the date might not be accurate.

“This is a special day for my family. Besides being born on Merdeka Day, she was also born after our 16 years of waiting.

“Not only my husband and I are excited about this birth, my 16-year-old daughter Nur Syazwani is also overjoyed as she had been waiting for another sibling for so long,” she said when met at HTJS here today.

Hasrafidah said after learning about her baby’s gender a few months ago, she and her husband, Adi Shahazil Md Jamil, 43, immediately prepared a name for their baby, who is now named Nur Syazwana Shah.

Meanwhile, Shaiful Nizam Ibrahim, 42, was grateful that his wife, Nurul Ain Amran, 31, had given birth to their fourth child at 8.44am.

He said his wife was supposed to deliver the baby on Sept 14, but she started to experience pain early this morning and was rushed to the hospital.

“When I took her to HTJS, the doctor told me it was time for her to give birth. Thankfully my wife did not take long to deliver our son who weighs 2.8kg,” he said.

He added that they were glad and proud that their son was born on this special date.
