SERI ISKANDAR: A newborn baby girl was found dead in a ditch near a construction site of Seri Iskandar Hospital here today.
Perak Tengah police chief Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah said they received information about the incident at 3.15pm.
He said preliminary investigations found that the unidentified baby is believed to have been newly born with her umbilical cord suspected to have been cut.
"The victim was found naked lying submerged in the ditch.
"Physical examination found no external injuries. Forensic autopsy will be conducted at Changkat Melintang Hospital, Bota by forensic experts from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, tomorrow morning, to determine the cause of death," he said in a statement tonight.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code and urged the public with information related to the case to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Mohamad Zulkarnaiin Jusoh at 013-9740294 to assist in the investigation.
