Rohingya fisherman missing at sea, SAR activated

GEORGE TOWN: A Rohingya fisherman is missing after he fell into the sea when the boat he was in rammed into a buoy early this morning.

Three other fishermen managed to swim to safety in the 6.30am incident in the waters in front of Padang Kota, here.

The victim has been identified as Bakar, 31.

A search and rescue (SAR) mission has been activated in search of the victim.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said when the boat knocked into the buoy, it overturned, resulting in all four fishermen scrambling to safety.

“Three of them managed to save themselves while the victim is feared missing,” he said.
