Father-of-four jumps to his death from Penang Bridge

GEORGE TOWN: After parking his Proton Saga at KM5.4 of the Penang Bridge here, a man jumped 70 metres to his death, on Thursday night.

The married father-of-four had pasted a sheet of paper with the phone numbers of his siblings on the dashboard of his car, before abandoning the vehicle.

The 54-year-old’s battered remains were discovered amidst rocks next to one of the bridge’s pier columns.

It is learnt that the man had sought medical treatment at the Sungai Petani Hospital on Tuesday for insomnia and gastric pains.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Che Zaimani Che Awang said the body was positively identified by those at the man’s workplace today.

“We did not find any signs of struggle or criminal element,” he said, adding that the nearest closed circuit television (CCTV) camera is 70 metres away from the scene.

The body was sent to the Penang Hospital’s Forensic Unit for a post-mortem.
