No cracks on Penang bridge

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has denied a viral post claiming that the Penang Bridge is cracking.

State Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said checks with officials from both Penang bridges showed there was no truth to the viral post.

"Checks showed the video footage which went viral was an old video.

"The said incident happened outside of Malaysia back in 2014," he said.

Zairil hoped people would stop spreading the video, which might potentially create fear among the people.

"Don't spread untruth news," he said.

Earlier today, a video footage went viral of cracks appearing on a bridge structure.

Some had claimed that the structure was the second Penang bridge or officially known as the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge.
