Spanish national dies after being thrown out of 4WD in Padawan

PADAWAN: A Spanish national died from head injuries after he fell out of a 4WD vehicle at Jalan FAC Matang, here yesterday.

Francisco Javier Fernandez De Lascoiti Mateo, 28, was pronounced dead at a private hospital more than three hours later.

Sarawak Traffic Investigations and Enforcement head Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu said in the 4pm incident, the Toyota Hilux was on its way from Kuching to Telaga Air Village, with the victim and three other people.

"Upon arrival at the scene, the victim who was seated on the open deck with another man slipped and was thrown out from the vehicle.

"He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries, and was pronounced dead at 7.30pm last night.”

Alexson said the victim’s body was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital. The 34 were not injured.

"The victim’s family and the Spanish embassy in Malaysia have been notified of the accident.

"The case will be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added.
