Former AG Hadenan A. Jalil dies

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Dr Hadenan A. Jalil, the ninth Auditor General since Malaysia’s independence, passed away peacefully at his family residence in Sungai Buloh, here, this afternoon. He was 73.

Hadenan began his 36 year long career in public service in 1970, as an assistant secretary in the budget division of the Malaysian Administrative And Diplomatic Services in the Ministry of Finance.

He then went on to assume various positions in the ministry such as principal assistant secretary, Tax Division; deputy secretary, Economic Division; deputy secretary, Finance Division and secretary, Finance Division until 1998.

Hadenan was deputy secretary general (Trade) at the International Trade and Industry Ministry from 1998 to 1999, and secretary-general at Works Ministry from 1999 to 2000.

Upon his retirement, he was appointed auditor general and served in the position from 2000 to 2006.

Hadenan later went on to serve in public companies such as PNB Commercial Sdn Bhd, Protasco Bhd, Unilever (M) Holding Sdn Bhd, ICB Islamic Bank Ltd Bangladesh, THP Sinar Sdn Bhd and held a directorship position at Malayan Banking Bhd.

He served as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chairman between 2011 and 2015.

Hadenan was also on the Board of Governors of Infrastructure at University Kuala Lumpur, and had served as chairman of Protasco Bhd, director at Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, MACC advisory board member, group business advisor of Sinar Jernih Sdn Bhd, and a member of the economic advisory council of Melaka.

The septuagenarian was also a fellow member of the Association of International Accountants and a honorary member of the Malaysian Institute of Internal Auditors.
