Monsoon transition to bring respite from haze

KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms and showers are expected to occur nationwide bringing a much needed respite from the choking haze.

Malaysian Meteorological Department director-general Jailan Simon said this follows the transition phase of the monsoon, which is expected to begin on Tuesday and last until early November.

“The transition phase marks the end of the Southwest Monsoon that began on May 6.

“During this period (transition phase), regional areas in the country will receive low-speed winds from various directions, which has the potential to form thunderstorm.

“Short-term thunderstorm plus heavy rain and strong winds are also expected to occur in the evening and night in the West Coast and interior parts in the peninsula during the monsoon transition phase.

“The same weather condition are expected to occur in the west coast of Sabah as well as the west coast and central part of Sarawak,” the statement said.
