School session at SK Lintang cancelled due to flood

SUNGAI SIPUT: School session at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Lintang, here, was cancelled today after it was inundated by 1.5-metre deep floodwater.

Kuala Kangsar District Education Department officer, Safuan Rabaai said the water began to rise since 5am and the strong currents also damaged the school gate.

A total of 67 students, 11 teachers, one school staff and two private workers were inside the school when the incident happened.

“The cleaning works could not be done because the water kept rising. A team from the Civil Defence Department and police personnel have been dispatched to help the villagers there as well.

“Many teachers and workers could not go to school as the main roads were flooded. Following that, the school has been told to close,” he said when contacted today.

Safuan said besides SK Lintang, five other schools might have experienced interruptions. Although sessions continued, seeveral staff and teachers could not come to work due to road closure, he added.

"The schools are Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bawong, SK Jalong, SK Lasah, SMK RLKT Lasah and SK Temin,” he said.
