Distraught over losing home, man jumps to death from Melaka hotel's 11th floor

MELAKA: A 22-year-old man jumped to his death from the 11th floor of a hotel in Melaka Raya here, today.

The man had gone into a rage in his hotel room, which he shared with his parents and younger sister, before storming off to the balcony and leaping to his death at 11am.

His mother had attempted to block his path, to no avail.

It is learnt that the family had been staying at the hotel since their house in Bukit Cina burned down in an incident on Aug 14.

An initial police investigation revealed that the man had frequently expressed a desire to kill himself.

“Our investigation also showed that the victim had been treated at the psychiatric ward of the Melaka Hospital several years ago.

“We found no criminal element in this case,” said Melaka Tengah deputy police chief Superintendent Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz.

He added that the body was sent to the Forensic Department of the Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem.
