Respect those who voted for the government, says Mujahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Talks on forming a new government without Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and DAP are “disrespectful” to voters who gave the ruling party its mandate to run the country.

Amanah vice-president Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof said the people had voted for the government via a democratic process, hence their wish and mandate must be respected.

“Whoever you are, you must respect the choice made by the people.

“The government now is as it is; the government that has been given mandate by the people,” he said at the Federal Territory Kembara Rahmah Zakat event organised by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) here.

The event was graced by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

Present were Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad, MAIWP chairman Datuk Seri Syed Hussien Al Habshee and Lembah Pantai member of parliament Fahmi Fadzil.

Mujahid said the government had been hard at work implementing policies as part of its objectives to fulfil the people’s mandate.

“We hope that these policies will be well received by the people who want to see change in the country,” he said.

On Oct 15, Pakatan Harapan (PH) Secretarial Council, in a statement, urged Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and his allies to stop his campaign for a new unified government without DAP and Amanah.

The statement was signed by five secretaries-general of the PH component parties — PH secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya, Amanah secretary-general Datuk Anuar Tahir and DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
