KUANTAN: The decomposing body of a local man was found floating near a water pump at Tasik Paya Bungor near Jalan Kuantan-Maran here today.
A group of villagers who were earlier involved in a gotong-royong (mass cleaning exercise) programme near the lake had informed the police on the discovery about 10am.
It was learnt that the victim was murdered elsewhere before his body, with his hands and legs bound, was dumped at the lake.
A police source said the bloated body which was fully dressed was found floating several meters from the pump house. The victim was believed to have been dead for more than 24 hours.
The body was sent to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile several families from Sri Jaya, Maran, gathered at the site as news broke out that the body belonged to one of their relatives who has been missing since Friday.
The group comprising men and women waited patiently near the yellow police line as the police forensic team examined the body and site.
