Four Malaysians nabbed in Cambodia for holding woman hostage

FOUR Malaysian operators of an online casino in Sihanoukville, Phnom Penh, Cambodia were arrested over the weekend for holding a woman to ransom.

The woman, a 24-year-old Thai national, was an employee of the online casino, and was accused by the Malaysians of having stolen company money.

According to Bernama, the quartet had threatened to sever the woman’s fingers if she or her family failed to pay 150,000 baht (RM20,700).

When the woman contacted her husband in Thailand, he lodged a police report at the Klongluek police station in Sa Kaeo province.

Thai police subsequently contacted their Cambodian counterparts, who raided an apartment in Sihanoukville, believed to be the online casino’s headquarters.

The woman held hostage was freed, and the four Malaysians were arrested.

Sa Kaeo Immigration police chief Colonel Benchapol Rodsawas said the woman has returned to Thailand, while the four Malaysians will be charged in Cambodia.
