Dr M: Govt has not received any 'interesting bids' for PLUS

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has not received any interesting bids to take over highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia Bhd (Plus).

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said there had been four or more offers for the takeover, but he had not seen anything attractive.

He said the government was not interested in Plus’ business, and said it was better if a private firm took over the largest highway concessionarie in Southeast Asia.

“We hope they make profits and we can get 24 per cent from their earnings, without any risks or investments.

“But, sometimes, the proposals from private companies are not attractive, so we are studying whether it’s better for it to be owned by the government or the private sector,” he said at the Parliament lobby today.

Last week, Works Minister Baru Bian said the government had received four formal offers to take over the highway operator.

The offers were from Widad Group Bhd, Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd, RRJ Capital and Karongsa Private Capital Sdn Bhd.
