Syed Badli rebukes Johari over Kampung Baru development remarks

KUALA LUMPUR: Kampung Baru Development Corporation Advisory Council member Syed Badli Syed Osman has taken a swipe at Umno’s Datuk Seri Johari Abd Ghani over the latter’s remarks concerning the government’s proposed Kampung Baru development plans.

Syed Badli, who is PKR Youth vice-chief, said there was no need for Johari, who was formerly the second finance minister, to be a “hero” over the parking facilities in Kampung Baru.

He said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government was preparing for a comprehensive development plan for the whole enclave, which extended beyond piecemeal projects such as the provision of buildings for parking facilities.

He said the comprehensive plan covered 62.1ha of Malay agricultural settlement (MAS) land and 0.2ha of Sungai Baru that would be redeveloped simultaneously.

“The latest offer by the government by offering a purchase price of RM1,000 per sq ft shows that the PH government is committed to developing Kampung Baru.

“During Johari’s service as the people’s representative and minister, he failed to come up with any development plan that would benefit the people,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, Johari who was the former Titiwangsa member of parliament, told the government that parking facilities were more important in the redevelopment plans than coming out with a new offer.

Johari also directed the question to Syed Badli when he asked where was the fight for parking and local issues that he fought for before PH became the government.

Syed Badli, in response, said Johari’s failure was the manifestation of Barisan Nasional’s total failure and the reason why people rejected the coalition in Titiwangsa.

“Let’s not talk about offers, not even piecemeal plans were presented. I advise Johari to help PH in realising its dream of seeing the city’s Malay settlement developed in a comprehensive way.

“Johari can help by giving an explanation on the offer that is far better than when he was in power,” he added.

The government recently offered Kampung Baru landowners RM1,000 per sq ft in another bid to secure a land deal.

The offer is limited to a maximum of RM850 in cash, with the remaining amount to be delivered by way of shares in a special purpose vehicle (SPV) that will be set up to facilitate redevelopment.
