Xing Fu Tang outlets in KL, Selangor vandalised amidst contract dispute

KUALA LUMPUR: Two Xing Fu Tang Malaysia outlets in Selangor and the capital were defaced by unknown vandals recently, the bubble tea company announced in a Facebook post on Monday.

It said that its SS15 and Sri Petaling stores were splashed with paint on five occasions outside of operating hours between Oct 17 and Oct 26.

Derek Cheong, executive director of Collab Working Lifestyle – the authorised agent of Xing Fu Tang Malaysia – told Says that no one was hurt in the attacks.

The Facebook announcement was accompanied by several photos showing the outlets’ iron shutters and signage defaced with red, black and brown paint. The sidewalk in front of the stores and a parked car were also splattered with paint.

The popular bubble tea brand said it does not know who the culprits are, but defiantly proclaimed in its Facebook post: “We refuse to bow to thugs."

It added that it has lodged a police report on the incidents and submitted CCTV footage to the authorities.

The vandalism comes as the brand is engaged in a bitter dispute with its Taiwan headquarters, which announced the cancellation of its contract with Collab Working Lifestyle, Says reported.

But the agent – which has been accused of making “unreasonable demands” – has challenged the cancellation, saying that the agreement was for 10 years.
