Bus driver in fatal crash tested positive for meth

BALIK PULAU: The bus driver who rammed several vehicles and killed a teenager in Bayan Lepas yesterday evening has tested positive for methamphetamine.

Southwest district police chief Superintendent A.A. Anbalagan said the 49-year-old also did not possess a driving licence.

“He has been remanded for two days from today,” he said in a statement today.

In the 6.30pm incident, 16-year-old Muhammad Saifullah Muhammad Hafiez, who delivered pizza part-time on his motorbike, died on the spot after being hit by the bus, which had lost control after crashing into a parked Proton Waja and a Suzuki Swift at Persiaran Kelicap.

The bus came to a halt after ramming into the wall of a house.

The driver of the Suzuki Swift and two other passengers sustained injuries and were given treatment at a hospital nearby.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
