Kelantan government urged to upgrade facilities

GUA MUSANG: The Kelantan government has been urged to improve public facilities at the Gua Musang bamboo mosque to ensure it will continue to prosper as the state's tourism product.

Nenggiri state assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said the mosque, the second made from bamboo in the country, had attracted many tourists since it was opened last year.

However, he said many visitors were not happy over the lack of facilities such as foodstalls or sundry shops near the mosque.

"The state government planned to promote the RM400,000 mosque as one of its tourism products but some visitors are facing problems to get food and other necessities while they are there.

"Therefore, I think the state government should consider this seriously as it will help to attract more visitors to the mosque," he said.

Located near the Gua Musang railway station, the mosque, made with bamboo on a 4 hectare land, was constructed by the Gua Musang Main Town contractor with the cooperation of the Gua Musang District Council.

It was launched by Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob on March 17 last year.

The bamboo mosque is another key attraction on Kelantan after the Razaleigh mosque which was designed after the Masjidil Haram in Mecca, minus the Kaabah.

Located in Bandar Lama here, the iconic Razaleigh mosque, costing about RM28 million is expected to complete by the end of the year and is expected to accommodate at least 3,000 people.
