Pahang exco lodges police report over forged letter and signature

KUANTAN: A Pahang state executive councillor (exco) has lodged a police report yesterday against a forged letter that bears his signature for the approval of a street light project to a private company.

Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Superintendent Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the state assemblyman in his 50s was shown the letter by his special officer at a restaurant on Nov 15.

According to him, the letter which contained the signature of the exco member was purportedly for a project to privatise the changing of street lightings from the current Son brand to LED (light-emitting diodes).

"The exco member realised the letter was fake, and claimed the signature on the document did not belong to him. To avoid any further problems, he decided to lodge a police report to clear his name and the state government's, and would not be responsible for any matters arising from the issue," he said in a statement today.

Wazir said police have recorded the statement from the witnesses and obtained the exco’s signature. The Chemistry Department has also been notified, he added.

"Investigations revealed the suspect had produced a forged document using the exco’s name and portfolio. We are investigating several individuals to track down the suspect," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 466 of the Penal Code for forgery.
