Man jumps to his death from 24th floor of Penang hotel; leaves note to donate organs

BALIK PULAU: A man jumped to his death from the 24th floor of a hotel building near here, on Monday evening.

The 30-year-old landed in the swimming pool on the eighth floor of the hotel, in the 7.20pm incident.

Passersby and hotel guests had earlier noticed the man attempting to leap from the building and alerted the police at about 6.42pm – but the man jumped before help arrived.

The man, who survived the fall, was rushed to the Balik Pulau Hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

Police uncovered a note left by the man, listing his siblings’ contact numbers.

"He had also indicated in the note that he wanted his organs to be donated,” said Southwest district police chief Superintendent AA Anbalagan.

He added that the man had apparently conducted a reconnaissance of the hotel prior to taking his life.
