Man with depression jumps to his death from 18th floor of Melaka hotel

MELAKA: A man jumped to his death from the 18th floor of a hotel at Melaka Raya here, today.

The remains of the 44-year-old were discovered in an alley behind the hotel at 7.40am. The hotel’s management was immediately alerted to the find.

An examination of the man’s hotel room on the 18th floor found that a chair had been placed next to the open window.

It is learnt that the man had checked in to the hotel on Dec 7 and was scheduled to check out today.

“We have learned that the man was going through a divorce and was suffering from depression.

“He was also taking anti-anxiety medication,” Melaka Tengah deputy police chief Superintendent Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said when contacted.

He said the body was sent to the Forensics Unit of the Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem, and that the case has been classified as “sudden death”.
