Skateboarding death: Family does not want post-mortem

KUANTAN: The family of Mohammad Farhan Fudhail Mohammad Farid has agreed not to carry out a post-mortem but only a basic check.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah said the government was currently assisting the family to have the teenager's body repatriated to Malaysia.

He said the body will be released to the family to be flown back here once the hospital completes the death report.

Saifuddin said Malaysia Airlines and MASCargo have agreed to help fly the body and his family back from Townsville in Queensland, Australia, to Kuantan.

He said there were four flights a week onTuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

"We expect the report to be ready today and they can be flown back tomorrow.

"We hope this can be done as soon as possible. Once the report is ready the body can be released," he told a press conference at the Desa Indera Mahkota 1 library.

He added that the repatriation process was handled by representatives from the ministry.

Mohammad Farhan Fudhail, 16, was killed in a skateboarding accident while on holiday in Townsville on Saturday.

The teenager, from Kuantan, had been skateboarding downhill at 2.30pm when he slammed into a roadside pole in Jezzine Barracks, North Ward, Australian media reported.

Despite using a safety helmet, he was in critical condition when paramedics arrived at the scene.

It is not yet clear at what point Mohammad Farhan Fudhail died.

The deceased and his sister stayed with their grandmother in Kuantan and went to school there, while their mother worked as a nurse in Australia.

A relative was quoted saying it was common for them to visit their mother on school holidays.
