Maszlee says resignation blessing in disguise

KLUANG: Simpang Renggam member of parliament Dr Maszlee Malik has described his resignation as education minister two days ago as a blessing in disguise.

Maszlee, 45, said he was neither sad nor angry over the decision made by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to advise him to resign from the post.

“I am not sad and I am not angry. I believe there is a blessing in disguise in all this... at least I can now serve the people of Simpang Renggam,” he said at a “meet-the-people” programme at the Simpang Renggam parliamentary service centre here today.

Maszlee thanked the prime minister for giving him 20 months to prove his capability in carrying out his responsibilities and described the period as a sweet memory.

He said he planned to introduce a report card to record the achievements of the council members and the Simpang Renggam District Council (MDSR) to ensure development in the constituency.

Maszlee also thanked the public for giving him their support through an online petition, urging him to be reinstated as education minister.

“I understand that the petition has reached almost half a million, thank you.

“I believe the ‘groundwork’ I have prepared in the Education Ministry is sufficient and my successor will be able to continue the national education agenda,” he said. — BERNAMA
