No decision yet on acquisition of four highway concessions

KUALA LANGAT: Discussions on the acquisition of four highway concessions in the Klang Valley by the Minister of Finance Incorporated are still underway.

Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd (Litrak) and Sistem Penyuraian Trafik KL Barat Sdn Bhd (SPRINT) chief executive officer Sazally Saidi said no decision had been made by the government so far.

“For now, the negotiations (with the government) are still at shareholders’ level. We were told that the deadline for the discussions is March. That is the target and we hope it can be concluded by then.

“We will wait for the government’s decision. The operations of the four highways are as usual and we will continue to provide our best services to our motorists,” Sazally said today.

Sazally said this when asked on the progress of the takeover of the highways, which comes under Gamuda Group, that was announced by the government last year.

The government had offered to take the four highways for a combined RM6.2 billion.

The acquisition of the four highways involves Litrak at RM2.47 billion; SPRINT at RM1.98 billion; Stormwater Management and Road Tunnel (Smart Tunnel) at RM369 million and Lebuh Raya Shah Alam (Kesas) at RM1.37 billion.

Sazally was met after presenting Chinese New Year goodies and angpows to 17 senior citizens at Rumah Sejahtera Jenjarom here as part of the joint annual corporate social responsibility effort by the four highway concessionaires to spread the festive cheer.

Also present were Smart Tunnel acting chief operating officer Mohd Noor Mohd Ali and Kesas chief operating officer Mohammed Shah Samin.

Apart from the Chinese New Year goodies made up of basic necessities, Sazally said they also took the initiative to spruce up and decorated the home with various kinds of festive ornaments such as lanterns.

Sazally said his team had also assisted in carrying out minor renovation works around the home and contributed new bed frames, mattresses, fans, a washing machine as well as furniture.

“We spent RM30,000 on this CSR effort as we want senior citizens here to live comfortably and at the same time enjoy the spirit of the Chinese New Year.

“It is important for us to be inclusive and we do not want them to feel left out during the festive period,” said Sazally.
