Woman fluent in 3 languages wins T'ganu tour guide award

KUALA TERENGGANU: A woman fluent in English, Spanish and Japanese won the Best Tourist Guide (City) Award at the Terengganu Tourism and Culture Award (APKT) 2018/2019 on Saturday.

Putih Dalib, 60, took home RM1,000 cash and a trophy.

This was the first award for Putih who has been in the business since 2008.

“Being able to speak and converse in several languages allows me to become a tour guide on a part-time basis.

“It’s a pleasant job, because you meet and make friends with many people.”

Putih, who is from Kuala Ibai near here, said the win would inspire her to continue to provide her best for tourists.

“I do not just take tourists to interesting places in Terengganu, but all over the country as well. My clients are usually Japanese, Chinese and European tourists.”

According to Putih, in addition to being able to speak many languages, a good knowledge of historical sites, local cultures and information on tourist destinations were also important.

“As tour guides, we are storytellers who provide tourists with information about the places they visit.”

Present were Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Tourism, Culture and Information Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman.
