Malaysia's coronavirus tally hits 15 as Chinese tourist tests positive

PUTRAJAYA: Another Chinese tourist has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), bringing the total number of infections in Malaysia to 15.

The 59-year-old woman, from Wuhan, China, arrived in Johor from Singapore on Jan 24 with her husband, son and daughter-in-law.

“She developed a fever on Jan 26, but only took medicine that her son bought at a nearby pharmacy.

“She was scheduled to return to China on Feb 4, but decided to remain (in the country) because she was not feeling well.

“On Feb 5, the woman was still ill. She was then referred to a hospital and was found to have been infected with 2019-nCoV on Feb 6,” Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said at a press conference here, today.

He added that the woman is in stable condition at the Permai Hospital Johor Baru’s isolation ward. She is being kept company by her husband.

Despite not showing any symptoms of the infection, the woman’s relatives in Malaysia have had samples taken for tests, Dr Dzulkefly added.
