Covid-19: RM127.78 million economic stimulus package for Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor has announced a RM127.78 million economic stimulus package comprising seven initiatives to counter the Covid-19 pandemic.

Named the ‘Covid-19 Selangor Concerned Stimulus Package’, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiatives include a deferral on land tax payments, benefits for frontline workers fighting the virus, as well as incentives for licensed traders and hawkers.

The stimulus package will also assist undergraduates from the state who are unable to return home due to the Movement Control Order (MCO), a three-month deferment for ‘Smart Sewa’ scheme participants, and allocations for state assemblymen.

He said the funding comes from the State Treasury and the CSR contributions of subsidiaries of state owned companies.

“The Selangor state government views seriously the Covid-19 outbreak, which has been categorised as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO), forcing the Malaysian government to implement the drastic measure of a Movement Control Order with the aim of breaking the chain of infection,” he said in a statement, today.

Amirudin added that the MCO will have an impact on people's daily lives in Malaysia in general, and the people of Selangor in particular.

“Thus, to reduce the… hardships caused by the MCO, the Selangor state government will implement a stimulus package known as Selangor Concerned Package,” he added.
