Malaysia records 4th Covid-19 death; infections rise to 1,183

PUTRAJAYA: A fourth Covid-19 patient in Malaysia died today, while 153 new infections were detected nationwide.

The latest infections bring the tally of cases in the country to 1,183 – the highest number by far in Southeast Asia.

According to Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the deceased – Case 238 – was a 50-year-old man linked to the Sri Petaling mosque cluster.

He was admitted to the Melaka Hospital on March 12 with Severe Acute Respiratory Failure.

“He was warded in the intensive care unit of the hospital and aided by a breathing ventilator on the fifth day.

“His health deteriorated by the day. He was pronounced dead at 1.30am (today),” Dr Noor Hisham added.

Meanwhile, of the 153 new cases, 90 are from the tabligh cluster, while the cause of the remainder is still under investigation.
