10,000 Pahang civil servants donate portion of salary to Covid-19 fund

KUANTAN: Up to 10,000 civil servants in Pahang have agreed to donate a portion of their salary to aid Malaysians whose livelihoods have been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The pay cut, which will be implement next month, was agreed to following consultation with the civil servants’ unions and representatives, said Pahang state secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak.

He said the civil servants’ decision to contribute to the Pahang Covid-19 fund was reached after they were made aware of the hardship faced by hawkers, food truck operators, taxi drivers and more after their livelihoods were badly hit by the virus, as well as the order restricting Malaysians’ movements.

"Some 10,000 civil servants in Pahang, including those appointed by the state, local authorities and state statutory bodies, have agreed to a pay cut to contribute to the Pahang Covid-19 fund.

"We estimate we will collect about RM100,000 in a month.

"This is a small gesture by the civil servants in Pahang to display their solidarity with those facing difficulties due to loss of income. Civil servants of all ranks (various grades) are doing it voluntarily and according to their capabilities," he said in a statement here today.

Yesterday, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail launched the Pahang Covid-19 fund to help cushion the burden of those hit hard by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Donations can be made by bank transfers or automated teller machines (ATMs) to Perbendaharaan Negeri Pahang's Bank Muamalat account number 06010002165711 under the subject TABUNGCOVID19PAHANG.

Those who wish to contribute to the fund can also do so through the PahangGo digital app.
