Sabah records 10 new Covid-19 cases

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah hit 225, with 10 new infections reported yesterday.

In a statement, state Health Department (JKNS) director Datuk Christina Rundi said the new cases are in Tawau (4), Tuaran (4), and Lahad Datu (2).

"On April 3, we tested 812 samples for Covid-19, out of which 11 tested positive, including one repeated sample.

"As of 8am yesterday, 117 Covid-19 patients, 89 Persons Under Investigation (PUI), and 41 patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) were treated at six specialist hospitals state-wide," she said.

With the increase in new positive cases, Rundi also noted that 11 Covid-19 patients fully recovered on April 3.

She said 623 people are still at 24 quarantine centres, while 53 people returned home yesterday.

Rundi also said 3,125 people, including patients, PUI, and health staff, at all quarantine centres have received mental health services and psychosocial support from trained experts.

Among the services provided are psycho-educational and individual intervention; counselling; group activities; infographic information; depression, anxiety and stress scall (DASS-21) screening; and digitally delivered Mental Health Alert cards.

She also rubbished a viral message on social media that claimed a death in Beaufort was due to Covid-19.

"In accordance with instructions issued by Wisma Putra with regard to the second Movement Control Order (MCO), all Malaysians who return from overseas will be quarantined for 14 days at quarantine centres effective April 3.

"Screening for Covid-19 will be done at the centres and those with positive results will be sent to hospital, otherwise quarantined.

"Families are advised not to go to the airport to fetch (family members) because they will immediately be taken to quarantine centres," said Rundi, while advising those who have returned from other states to undergo 14-day self-quarantine.
