BHB, Bank Islam contribute RM1.6 million to aid fight against Covid-19

KUALA LUMPUR: BIMB Holdings Berhad (BHB), with its wholly-owned subsidiary, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam), today announced their contribution totalling RM1.6 million to support various humanitarian and medical-related causes in combatting the Covid-19 pandemic.

BHB contributed RM1 million to #MusaadahCovid-19 Fund, a fundraising programme initiated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohammad Al-Bakri.

The contribution, which is to provide relief to Muslim and non-Muslim frontliners battling the outbreak, was presented to Zulkifli on March 30.

Chief executive officer of BIMB Holdings and Bank Islam Mohd Muazzam Mohamed said that as a responsible corporate citizen, it is the banks’ responsibility to look after the wellbeing of stakeholders and communities.

“Covid-19 has taken a severe toll on the welfare of society and economic activities around the globe; more so on the medical fraternity and micro-entrepreneurs.

“The RM1.6 million pledge is part of our on-going effort to assist vulnerable and underprivileged communities which have been significantly impacted by the pandemic. With all initiatives in place, we hope to be able to cushion the impact of (the outbreak),” he said.

Meanwhile, Bank Islam, through its corporate responsibility arm, AMAL, also contributed a RM600,000 for the following initiatives:

- Financial assistance to micro-entrepreneurs whose businesses are severely affected by the pandemic;

- Direct Relief Support Programme which will supply food and necessities to universities, orphanages, old folks’ homes and homes for the disabled, as well as essentials and medical supplies to hospitals and district health clinics; and,

- Purchase of necessities and essential needs for hospitals nationwide.
