JKM Sarawak hands out RM1.6 mil in Aidilfitri aid

KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKM) has allocated over RM1.6 million in financial aid to 16,624 recipients across 12 divisions of the state as part of the Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri initiative, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.

This aid is aimed at alleviating the financial burdens faced by the less fortunate during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

Sarawak Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam highlighted the programme's goal to bring joy and relief to the recipients during the festive period.

The breakdown of beneficiaries includes 4,524 from Kuching, 2,417 from Samarahan, and other divisions receiving varied amounts, totalling RM1,662,400 in aid.

The announcement came during the Sejambak Kasih Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2024 event at Al-Muttaqin Mosque, where 150 recipients received symbolic cash handouts of RM100 and hampers worth RM80 each. The remaining financial aid will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of those not present at the ceremony.
