KUALA LUMPUR: If adults are finding it hard to adjust to the "new normal" called the Movement Control Order (MCO), imagine how children feel.
For Nadzirah Razali, she has her own way to keep her children entertained as well as "go shopping" for snacks!
Nadzirah, transformed part of her kitchen into "Kedai Runcit Ibu", which opens daily from 10am to 8pm.
Just like a real grocery shop, Nadzirah arranged all the items nicely, with a toy cash register and hand sanitiser at the corner of her "shop".
Snacks such as cereal, chocolates, biscuits and malt drink were available and priced at RM50 and RM100.
She said if her children wanted to "buy" something from the shop, they have to first "earn" their wage.
“If you want to buy something from my shop, you have to work and get your wages.
“With your wages, you can buy from my shop. If you don’t have the money, you cannot buy.
“(And) before you buy, please sanitise your hands,” she wrote.
The wage offered by Nadzirah varies according to the types of work namely; tidying up their toys works out to RM50; nap for one hour (RM50); study or read a book (RM150); recite the Quran after Maghrib prayer (RM200), and cleaning up the house (RM50).
Nadzirah also offered bonuses between RM10 to RM15 if her children got along and did not fight with each other, along with an unspecified amount if the children did not disturb her while she was working.
So far, her post, accompanied by seven photos, has garnered 6,400 likes, 3,400 comment and shared over 11,000 times.
Facebook user Rafidah Hazit said: “Great idea to teach children how to count their money and spend it.”
Another user Nurafiqah Zolkilfli said: “What an idea to instil good financial behaviour and management among children, as well as good hygiene)."
Norlifa Ramli wrote: “A very good idea, where the children work their way out to buy snacks.”
Some of the users even jokingly threatened to report Nadzirah to the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry for selling her snacks at exhorbitant prices.
Alif Naqiuddin wrote; “Please look at this”, while tagging the ministry’s official Facebook page.
Another user Nur Hidayah Zainudin wrote; “Hello police, please arrest ibu (Nadzirah), for selling at unreasonable prices.”
