ATMs to operate from 8am to 8pm during MCO

PUTRAJAYA: The government has restricted the operating time of 24-hour automated teller machine (ATM) vestibules in order to further strengthen the Movement Control Order (MCO) enforcement.

ATMs will now only be operating from 8am to 8pm daily during the MCO period, announced Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister (Security Cluster) said many people had used the excuse of withdrawing money for emergencies as an excuse to go out late at night.

“Since some ATMs operate around the clock, we received reports that many were out after 10pm, with the excuse that they urgently needed to withdraw money.

“Therefore, we have decided to limit the operating hours of ATM vestibules from 8am to 8pm,” he said at his daily press conference, today.

Ismail Sabri, who is also Defence Minister, said the police on Saturday arrested 1,111 individuals who had flouted the MCO.

From the total, 997 individuals were remanded and 114 were granted police bail.

“The cumulative number of people who flout the MCO as of April 18, now stands at 14,750,” he added.
