Just 36 new Covid-19 cases recorded; no new death

PUTRAJAYA: Ninety-eight more Covid-19 patients have recovered from the disease and were discharged today.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the overall number of patients who have fully recovered as of noon today stood at 3,295 or 60.74 per cent of the cumulative 5,425 confirmed cases of Covid-19.

He said 36 new cases were recorded today, lower than the daily number of recovered patients.

“It is with pleasure that I inform you that no new death was reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), and the death toll remains at 89,” he told a press conference today.

A total 45 patients are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 28 of whom are under ventilator support,” he said.

This is the fifth time Malaysia has recorded a double-digit rise in new Covid-19 cases since the Movement Control Order (MCO), aimed at breaking the chain of infections, came into force.

Dr Noor Hisham attributed the success in lowering the number of cases to dedicated medical frontliners, enforcement agencies and others involved in directly implementing the MCO.

However, he urged the public to continue obeying the MCO, including practising social distancing and washing hands regularly.
