After delay, Kedah implements CMCO with immediate effect

ALOR STAR: The Kedah government has agreed to implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) with immediate effect.

The decision, which allows most economic sectors in the state to resume full operations upon complying with the SOPs, was announced after a state Security Working Committee meeting today.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said legal action will be taken against employers who fail to abide by the SOPs, such as failing to prepare face masks for employees or sanitising their workplaces accordingly.

"All manufacturing sectors are allowed to operate if they can comply with the SOPs.

"We still will not allow customers to dine in at restaurants. Instead, restaurant operators are only allowed to sell their foods as take away, via delivery or drive-thru from 8am to 8pm.

"Muslim restaurants are only allowed to operate from 3pm to 8pm," he told the press after chairing the meeting at Wisma Darul Aman.

Mukhriz also said public and recreational parks will remain closed during the CMCO. Those who wish to carry out sports activities are allowed to do so individually within their residential areas.

"We allow shopping malls to operate if they abide by the SOPs set by the government. For retail and wholesale sectors, they are allowed to operate from 8am to 8pm only.

"The same timeframe applies to government official offices. Guidelines on state and federal government departments' operations will be distributed by the state Secretary soon. All government agencies are allowed to operate."
