PUTRAJAYA: Foreign workers are now the target group for Covid-19 screening, especially those in the red zones in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the ministry has adopted a targeted approach in actively detecting Covid-19 infections in the country.
"We look into locality and high-risk groups. We (already) knew that high-risk groups (are those from the) Sri Petaling tabligh gathering and tahfiz schools. Now, foreign workers are one of the target groups, especially (those) in red zones in KL and Selangor," he said, saying that out of the 30 cases today, 24 were foreign workers and six locals.
"Our new target in terms of high risk group is foreign workers," he said at the daily Covid-19 press conference, here, today.
He said the ministry's current policy was to make sure targeted foreign workers were screened.
"It will be based on locality. After we identify them, we will screen them, hence we encourage employers to screen their foreign workers," he said.
Meanwhile, he said Malaysia has received 50,000 antigen rapid test kits from South Korea.
He said Sabah and Sarawak have each received 10,000 units, and another 15,000 were distributed to Johor, and also to Kuala Lumpur International Airport and KLIA2.
He added that another 100,000 kits from South Korea will be arriving by the end of this week.
