Businesses in Penang to reopen tomorrow

GEORGE TOWN: After a two-month closure, businesses are finally able to resume tomorrow as Penang implements its Penang Gradual Recovery Strategy (PGRS).

Traders from the non-essential category were seen coming back to their premises in the past few days to clear the dust, rearrange goods and prepare to welcome customers again.

Nurdalilah Saidin, 38, who sells headscarves at the third floor of Komtar said that she was glad the state government allowed her business to resume.

"Life after Movement Control Order will be tough, but 'Alhamdulillah', at least we are now allowed to go out to work.

"A few weeks back, I was worried about how Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri would be if we were still told to remain indoors.

"We accept this as the new normal. Now that we're halfway through Ramadan, I am able to earn a living," she said when met at her business premises.

Government offices in Komtar have also been making preparations to reopen their services tomorrow.

Checks found that notices were pasted on visitor seats to remind them to sit apart to maintain social distancing.

Last week, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) as part of the move to restart the economy.

The Penang government, however, introduced PGRS to gradually implement CMCO as it wanted to reopen sectors in stages.
