Gerak Malaysia: Less restrictions of movement to last until Sunday

KUALA LUMPUR: Interstate travellers will be able to enjoy some form of relaxation in their movement until Sunday, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

"The police today had said that travels on motorcycles and public (transport) vehicles are allowed.

"They also allowed more than four people in a vehicle. Say, we allow travels of more than four people in vehicles with seats that can accommodate up to six people. Some families have more than four people travelling, so it is unwise to leave two behind and return later to fetch them.

"Based on my observation from media reports, the situation is under control; not many cars were seen on the (highway) roads and R&R (rest and service areas).

"Some 500,000 people have registered with Gerak Malaysia. There are three zones (central, east and south) from different routes daily. From tomorrow until Sunday, people from other state will be travelling interstate," said the senior minister in BernamaTV's Ruang Bicara programme today.

Ismail said Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya were placed under a single category, thus the prohibition on interstate travels did not apply to them.

"So, we do not impose travel restriction on them (during the Conditional Movement Control Order) and categorised the three as Klang Valley or Greater KL. We know that there are many people living in Selangor and work in Kuala Lumpur."

He said the main concern was possible overcrowding at R&R, thus he reminded the public to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and maintain social distancing and not wander around.

He said the police would present a report on the first day of interstate travels involving those from Kuala Lumpur in the morning meeting tomorrow.
